I HAVE BEEN CONTACTED MANY TIMES FOR A AVAILABLE MANAGEMENT POSITION WITH THIS "FORTUNE 500 COMPANY". I WAS TOLD "MANAGEMENT" AND THAT I WOULD MAKE "75K TO 100K FIRST YEAR" BUT NOTHING ELSE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I AM VERY SKEPTICAL. I HAVE SEEN AND HERD VERY FEW GOOD COMMENTS ABOUT THERE PRODUCT LINE WHICH I THINK WOULD BE IMPORTANT IF I'M SUPPOSED TO MAKE RENEWALS. ANY INPUT BASED ON FACTS, NOT JUST BAD FEELINGS, FROM SOME EXPERIENCED INSURANCE PROFESSIONALS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I was told the same thing and that I wouldn't have any problem because the "policies sell themselves".

Where I was we were given leads and expected to make appointments and see the potential client in person. Regardless of where in the state.

A lot of people had to "think about it". well, gas and all expenses are on the agent's dime. It is 100 pct commission. If the client cancels, it is the agent's fault. No renewal. If a client's check bounces, again, it is the agent's fault. No renewal and you go into negative.

I stayed about 5 months (longer than I should). if you can go on for weeks without any
pay, this job will be perfect for you. I could not.

Training is nill. You're sent out. Policies are thrown at you. Have no idea how to interpret all of them.

UA is constantly recruiting. No retention. It is an assembly line mentality.

You'll get a few leads. then you'll get a business lead lis (10 companies that have 100 employees) is your 1000 leads for the week, Everyone calls from essentially the same list. be prepared to get screamed at, hung up on, stood up. You name it. The expenses were what killed me. Driving 5 hours for "I'll think about it and CALL YOU BACK (THEY DIDN'T) WAS JUST LUDICROUS TO ME.

The promises of $100K per year are great if they're true, but, there is a catch, especially with this crowd.

Run, don't walk. it's a good experience if you can survive weeks on end without a paycheck !
But,most people can't. United American operates on an assembly line mentality.
never saw any mentoring or retention encouragement.

In my opinion, taking this job was a terrible mistake on my behalf. I'm too scared to say anything more.

First off nothing sells itself! I am sure that there products are no better or worse than any other insurance companies. An insurance company goes through a rigourous examination by the state Commisioner of Insurance. So you can rest assured that they are solvent, and conducting themselves within the laws of the states that they are licensed to operate in.

From what I can tell from your posts.most of you are thinking of this as a job rather than a career. Insurance agents are self-employed. Regardless of the fact that they are affliated with a company. That means you pay for your license, your expenses and yes your leads and anything having to do with your office. You earn your money via commision. I make very good money as an agent. I am payed weekly usually in excess of $1500.00 per week. If I make less than that, I am very angry with myself.

You can make very good money in this business, but you need to get organized. Find a niche...Look at the products that your company has to sell and do a bit of reseach. Find out what is the best business to write at the moment. Keep in mind that you are going to have to sell it. There are alot of people out there in need of your product, but they don't always know it.

I spend 6 hours one day a week making appointments on the phone. You can't worry about the hang-ups,it is a numbers game. I spend 4 days going to the appoints I made that one day. I usually end the week with 4 to 5 sales. It takes me 40 appointments to get 4-5 sales, but these 4-5 sales represents $1500.00 per week plus in my pocket. You have to have a work ethic and some toughness about yourself

The downside for many of you is that you are not being properly trained. That means you don't know how to work your business. Learning how to do the right things every day.
